The evolution of Social Media

Did you know Instagram was originally made to share photos and videos? Sooner or later Instagram slowly evolved becoming a social media where people are able to communicate with each other, to later on become a platform where rising stars can be exposed, a marketplace for business to sell their merchandise, as well as a place to promote and market their business.

As a human being who was born in the year 2000, I can say that I have experienced the evolution of social media, from memories of the first-ever blackberry with blackberry messenger to the 2g iPhone with the messenger, email, and later on Instagram and now the present smartphones such as the iPhone 12 and the Samsung Galaxy 21 with the freedom to choose any social media available from the app store.

With the possibilities of being able to create ads with a click of a button to hiring an influencer to promote your product, social media has become a prime marketing tool from small businesses to big companies. For example, a couple years ago Instagram was only able to post pics, videos, and message people. Now with the option to put hashtags and the marketplace, communities are made, and products are getting sold. Putting advertisement is one of many digital marketing strategies that are available to date. Today I will be sharing with you guys 3 popular strategies that can be seen down below:

1. Viral marketing

Viral marketing is when you try to make a trend or hype for consumers/users to share the content or the product the business is trying to sell an example would be a promotion video made by apple showing a shot that is made through the use of the iPhone X, the video intrigued a lot of Instagram users making them share the video for free.

2.Target marketing

Target marketing is where you are able to target a certain community or topic allowing you to get a better chance of getting the users to buy the product as it is in their field of interest.

3.Influencer Marketing

influencer marketing is when you use a very famous person to endorse y our product, allowing their followers to share or buy the product.

overall Social media has evolved in a lot of ways including the consumers/users on it, how influencers are used, as well as the communities that are made.

For example creating short videos on Instagram, TikTok, Vine which now no longer exist, videos on youtube, or just 150-word tweets on Twitter. All that effort in order to become viral. Trying to become viral is like trying to become famous, but with the difference of one lasting only for a while one lasts longer. But how does one get viral, why does it get viral, how do people think, or look at viral content compared to normal content?  According to a couple of authors, there's a lot more to why things become viral.  Jonah Berger is one of them, stating that there are 6 steps to follow in order to make a successful email marketing. Social Currency, triggers, emotions, practical value, and stories.  Social currency  Triggers Emotions  Practical Value  And Stories  Compared to Seth Godin a blogger whose blog ranked no 1 out of the 976 ...
