Limitation of Social media? week 11

As the years pass by, Social media, the internet, and anything digital-related keep growing and growing. But there will be a time where there is nothing left to improve on.  With social media becoming a very trendy spot to advertise and digitally market for business, is fully shifting towards digital marketing the right path? or is traditional marketing still essential.

Limitations of Social Media

-Risk of Negative Comments

Negative comments aren't a new thing, but terms of how fast a comment can spread is very different in comparison to traditional marketing. Nowadays Comments is the communities way to share their opinions, therefore is the deciding factor whether your  campaign works or fails miserably

-Low return on Investment

As attractive as it sounds, digital marketing isn't free, with ads costing quite a lot of money, and free advertising costing a lot of time.

-Time Consuming

Like what was said before, digital marketing needs a lot of attention, to either match the algorithm or to make sure to interact actively with the customers when needed.

-Hackers Threat

Digital marketing being on the internet, all the data that is kept online, is always vulnerable to people stealing, therefore security is very important which means more money.

According to Mark Ritson's video, we as human beings, I and you tend to follow whatever the current trend is, This is called a magpie profession, the concept where how magpies are attracted to shiny things aligns with how we human beings are attracted to new things no matter what. This goes along with us seeing digital marketing as the shiny new way of marketing. Some statistics from the video saying that 66% of Australians don't follow a brand on social media.  Mark Ritson also said "I think we are doing it because we are afraid not to do it, its a natural feeling, but is a feeling we need to face"  like a flock of sheep, we follow the majority rather than analyzing the situation and picking the appropriate choice of action. The same thing can be seen with 1.45 billion users using social media in 2018 march which was a 13% increase from 2017.

Overall, I think we need to shift our point of view of digital marketing being about marketing on social media. There is a lot to consider, IMC being a good example where digital marketing doesn't only need to be digital, it can be integrated with traditional marketing too.

week 7-Gen-Z Dreams to become Viral

Being a human being born as a Gen Z, we can all agree that we have all tried to create something that might go viral. For example creating short videos on Instagram, TikTok, Vine which now no longer exist, videos on youtube, or just 150-word tweets on Twitter. All that effort in order to become viral. Trying to become viral is like trying to become famous, but with the difference of one lasting only for a while one lasts longer. But how does one get viral, why does it get viral, how do people think, or look at viral content compared to normal content?  According to a couple of authors, there's a lot more to why things become viral.  Jonah Berger is one of them, stating that there are 6 steps to follow in order to make a successful email marketing. Social Currency, triggers, emotions, practical value, and stories.  Social currency  Triggers Emotions  Practical Value  And Stories  Compared to Seth Godin a blogger whose blog ranked no 1 out of the 976 ...
